Jeseungdang Shrine

When Admiral Yi Sun-sin was appointed commander-in-chief of the naval forces of three provinces, in August 1593, he established the Tongjeyeong Naval Station on Hansando Island and built the Unjudang as the naval headquarters at the present site of the Jeseungdang Shrine to devise strategies with his staff.
The building was ruined during another invasion by the Japanese in 1597. When the 107th commander-in-chief of the naval forces, Jo Gyeong, erected a monument dedicated to Admiral Yi in 1740, he rebuilt the building on the site of the ruined Unjudang and renamed it Jeseungdang. The name tablet still hanging in the shrine was written by Jo Gyeong himself.
